B Res: Round 9 vs Syndal

Well this side really did end up being a combination of a few Falcons teams! We had 5 B Res girls, 4 Div 1 girls and 1 Div 2 girl! I would firstly like to say a HUGE thankyou to the girls who filled in for us (Ashleigh, Olivia, Erin, Steph & Abby) - quite obviously without them, we would have had to forfeit. Not only did the allow us to have a match, but they all did an excellent job. For a group of girls who many of them had just met on the day, it was amazing to see how well they were able to play as a team.

We started the game with a bang. In the first inning, we managed to get through 10 batters, to score 6 runs with 6 hits, including a sensational triple to right field from Olivia (the pitcher obviously didn't like this, as Olivia was hit in her next two at bats!). Ashleigh also put down a great bunt to move Liz around. In the field, Liz threw well, striking out 2 batters, whilst Abby did an excellent job behind the plate to support Liz, including taking a good pop-up catch for our first out.

In the batting box again, we saw some more good base running and batting from the team in the 2nd dig. It was wonderful to see some really aggressive base running from Ashleigh, moving around from 1st to 3rd on a great bunt from Jess. Jodie then came up to hit a double down the left line to bring Ashleigh home. Out fielding performance was pretty slick in the 2nd dig, allowing only the 1st batter to get on base with a hit to leftfield, which was tracked down well by Steph. Julie took a very nice catch at right field to get the first out, followed by 2 more strikeouts from Liz.

In our 3rd and final at bat, Abby started us off with a terrific hard flat shot to centre field. Liz then picked out a walk, and Ashleigh produced another great bunt to move them both around. Jess was also hit by a pitched ball, after which Jodie came up with another good hit to centre. In our last fielding inning, Abby and Ashleigh combined to make an excellent double play. Abby took a very good catch, then followed it up with a great throw to Ashleigh, covering 1st base, to beat the runner back. Our last out was again as a result of an Abby throw, this time throwing out an eager runner at 3rd base, with Olivia completing the play.

Congratulations on an excellent team game, girls, despite the unusual combination!
