There's one thing that must be said for this team - when they hit, they hit big!! We had 3 stand-up triples hit for the game; one each to Kate, Jo and Jess. It was again great to see some aggressive base running, including some sneaky running from Liz. We also had a couple great bunts from Ashley and Julie to get their team mates into scoring positions.

In the first dig, some good fielding (particularly from Jodie - since when do pitchers field that well?!) held Brandon Park to just 1 run. Our girls then burst out of the blocks, running hard and hitting even harder to bring in 3 runs to start the game off. The second inning saw more tight defence from our team, again limiting the opposition to just 1. Unfortunately we didn't hang around too long ourselves in this dig.

Another good catch from Kez out a rightfield prevented more Brandon Park runners crossing the plate in the 3rd, whilst we were able to add another 2 to our total, largely due to Jo's timely triple. Jodie's very accurate pitching continued throughout the 4th inning, and with the help of a ripper throw from Kez at right to Liz at 3rd who tagged the runner for the 3rd out of the dig, was able to again stop the opposition from scoring. Aside from a good hit to centre from Jodie, we didn't trouble the scorer much ourselves in the 4th.

Going into the 5th inning, we had a comfortable 5-2 lead. It was at this time that the rain came, and unfortunately our errors with it. But, to their credit, the girls showed their steel, and were able to get themselves our of the field being only 1 run down. We then got ourselves to a situation where we had runners on 2 & 3 with 2 down and still a run behind. Then came Lauren (aka Wozza) striding to the plate. She promptly slammed her first pitch to leftfield, scoring our tying run. A walk from Kez, and more good base running from Lauren saw us bring home another 2 runs in the dying minutes of the game to snatch back the win.

Well done, girls, but this week, give your coach a break and don't give them a sniff!

Also, thanks heaps to Ruth Caldwell (great to see you back at the park!) for being this week's guest 1st base coach, and also to Jeff Cull for colouring in the book.

Play of the Day

  1. There was a lot of good "team play" that is becoming a trade mark for this team, but probably the most spectacular was a bunt from Ashley Cull. Second batter of the game, the most perfect timing and placement up the 3rd base line you will see! Great work Ash!
