A Res: Round 1 vs Syndal

Well, this is a funny kind of report because I am filling in for Sharon Stocker (currently on assignment in Hanoi), who is filling in for Keryn Ralph (who is not yet back from the USA). I guess retirements never last too long, and besides… I am already tired, why do I want to "re"-tire? So it was back to the tools and it was like I had never taken a break!

Regardless of all that rubbish, the season kicked off with a bang on Saturday with beautiful weather and excitement on everyone's faces as we tackled Syndal in the first A Reserve game of the year.

Div 2: Round 1 vs Glen Heights

The sparkling Div 2 team were back in action on a sunny Saturday morning. The reigning premiers started off slowly and were down 3-6 at the bottom of the second. The game quickly turned during our bat in the 3rd inning where the girls put 5 runs in the book and never looked back. Glen Heights put up a great fight and came back again in the top of the last inning but the girls showed strength in the field to shut them down with two strike outs and a beautiful catch in right field by Katie Hopkins. The girls then backed it up in the box firing in another six runs to seal the victory.

Junior Div 3: Round 14 vs. Glen Waverley Red

The Falcons jumped out to a seven run lead in the first innings off sound batting and aggressive base running. Glen Waverley fought back hard and responded with five runs in the bottom of the first dig.

Despite a shaky start the Falcons in-field rose to the occasion making sure that no more Waverley runners would cross home plate on the day. The Falcons added another four runs in the second dig to take their lead out to 11 -5.

C Grade: Round 13 vs Glen Heights

Despite their coach being on the disabled list due to illness the girls who were also shorthanded in the player department rallied around each other and after falling behind 5 - 1 to Heights in the first dig managed to claw out a 10 all draw. Special thanks goes to Erin Dunstan for stepping into the line-up to assist the girls in obtaining the draw!

B Res: Round 9 vs Syndal

Well this side really did end up being a combination of a few Falcons teams! We had 5 B Res girls, 4 Div 1 girls and 1 Div 2 girl! I would firstly like to say a HUGE thankyou to the girls who filled in for us (Ashleigh, Olivia, Erin, Steph & Abby) - quite obviously without them, we would have had to forfeit. Not only did the allow us to have a match, but they all did an excellent job. For a group of girls who many of them had just met on the day, it was amazing to see how well they were able to play as a team.

Junior Div 3: Rnd 7 vs. Syndal.

Emily Papadimitriou combined solid pitching and precision batting to lead the Div III team to its 7th straight win of the season against a determined Syndal. Emily went three for three on the day hitting a triple to right field, a single to centre field and a double to left field to end the day with a 1000 batting average!! Safe hits from Wynona Miller, Kate Hopkins, Jess Morrison & Eliza Tivendale sealed Syndal's fate and ensured yet another victory for the Falcons! Special mention goes to Katie Hopkins for her Season 05-06 pitching debut in less than acceptable weather conditions.

Div 2: Round 6 vs Eastern Raiders

The game opened with Raiders being very disciplined in the batters box, making Sam work really hard on the pitchers plate. Raiders scored four runs before Sam got us out of a tough spot with 2 strike outs in a row to end their turn at bat.
