Welcome to the 2009 - 2010 Season
Welcome all players, families and supporters to the new Falcons Softball Club website. We also invite potential new players to have a look around this website – we are a proud family club and are always ready to welcome new players, both young and old, to join one of teams.
Thank you
We would like to extend a very big thank you to our website developer Ray Carrasco for putting together a website that everyone in the club can be very proud of. Check it out, have a look around, and see if you can spot yourself in the photos that go back quite a few years. We are sure you will agree that the website is looking fantastic and this is due to Ray’s tireless efforts and many hours of development.
Pre Season Arrangements
As the start of the season nears, we will be bringing you vital information about pre-season training clinics, fundraising efforts and of course the Falcons Softball Club Registration Day, which will be held in September before the start of the school holidays. As dates and coaching arrangements are finalised, information will be emailed out to our club database and will be posted on this web page.
New Junior Head Coach
We are very excited to announce that the juniors (all players from T ball through to our top high school team Div 1) have a new head coach – Paula McGovern. Paula is not only a Falcons parent but is also the current Australian U19 Womens Head Coach and Australian Open Womens Selector and she comes to this position with lots of coaching experience ranging from local to international teams.
Paul last coached the Falcons A Grade team all the way to the premiership in 2007-08, then had a break last season to concentrate on her family as well as Australian duties and Jesse Stocker took over. Wanting to give Jesse another tilt at the A Grade title in 2009-10, President Rod Johns, Registrar Tony Dudley and Paula have come up with an innovative and original coaching scheme for the juniors in 2009-10.
Training will be held on Wednesday afternoons for all junior teams. The venue will be somewhere in the Ashburton/Ashwood region as it was last year and Rod has been busy sorting out arrangements with a couple of grounds in mind. Paula will have primary responsibility for the Div 1 team and will oversee the activities of all other teams. The Committee has promised to help out with the purchase of some batting nets and is looking to have access to electricity to run the club’s pitching machine.
Some of the benefits of this unique arrangement include the individual attention and skills development of the highest possible order that will be provided to all players, the assistance, support and knowledge Paula can provide to other coaches, and the enjoyment and stimulation the players and coaches alike will get from training together as a squad. Paula has a wealth of ideas, practices and enthusiasm ready to put in place and on behalf of the club the Committee welcomes her to the position and is ready to assist in any way.
